Updating the location database
Hi everyone,

Currently, Steam's location database is missing some cities and regions that already exist, or their names and boundaries are outdated. This causes issues for users who cannot correctly select their city or region.

I request an update to the database to include new cities and correct names. This would make the platform more accurate and user-friendly.

If you agree, please like or comment so that developers can notice this issue.

Thank you!

Steam use a third-party service for location information. If you have any complaints or suggestions regarding location information, take it up with the service they use

Where am I supposed to find this service? I don't think my request to a large company will solve anything.

+ Steam support recommended writing here because developers often look at things like

Nobody from Steam monitors any of the forums apart from the forum police but they only respond to user reports. Nobody is watching / reading the forums.

That was just the support agent’s polite way of saying “go away, I don’t have an answer for you”. They always send users to the forums when they don’t have a valid answer to avoid looking bad.

As I said, it’s a third-party service who provides Steam with the details of cities / countries. Steam has zero control over it.

GeoNames.org is the service Steam uses

And that service actually provides required information but Steam still misses some cities ( but not small villages near those cities). Quite strange.
Valve would have to manually enter in the new locations. Just like the flags for the nations, which Valve had to add Syria's flag earlier this year.
