Please Sell Official SteamOS Desktop PC Install Media
I know I can just create my own SteamOS installation media for desktop PC using a USB thumb drive, but I think it would be awesome if I could just order it on the Steam store. For the sake of convenience.

That is, a USB drive with the SteamOS desktop PC installer that I can order on the Steam store and have mailed to my house.

It will be free as an online installer when released. Feel free to put it on your own USB drive when it happens.

If you want to run Linux on a desktop PC or laptop, I'd recommend just running a general purpose version of Linux. No sense running a locked-down hardware-optimized distribution on hardware it's not optimized for.

I'm typing this on my Debian laptop right now. You can install the Steam client on any Linux and it's basically SteamOS without all the problems you'd get by trying to run SteamOS on a device SteamOS isn't designed for.

i already have a pc running ubuntu but my vr stuff doesn't work well on it so i was interested in trying steamos someday

Your VR stuff will work the same on SteamOS as it does Ubuntu. They're both Linux. SteamOS is just set up to be good for handhelds and console-like HTPCs.
