Healthier than taking up smoking. I wish that was a joke, I've not smoked for 16 years... and the past few days with people talking about how AI should replace all artists and how it's good that it's stealing from artists... has made me want a cigarette. Badly.
I've said that to them before. Though, Amaterasu isn't wrong in that these forums should be absolutely burnt to the ground due to the amount of rampant bigotry running around in them.
For people who behave and follow the rules this would actually make these forums bad.
But when politics get to "people", well that tends to get hairy, because people get offended if you're targeting them or those in tuned with these socio moral issues.
On the off topics, 9 times out of 10 that's a ban hammer waiting to happen. For those who don't think it happens, it happens every day.
I tend to get along with both sides. Out of all my bans on Steam, i have not been banned not even one time for politics. In fact every one of my bans are having to do with the policies of Steam, Moderation and Game Hubs.
I would say however, i would agree and it in fact may happen (particularly with Mr Newell now ending up in Congress) we can plausibly see an end to the forums or any real social interaction on Steam beyond the games itself.
The rules aren't enforced with absolute consistency. Even then, the moderators seem to scream bloody murder at a bumped old topic rather than deal with bigger issues such as racism and bigotry across the forums.
I don't agree with Amaterasu's suggestion of removing all the rules, but burning these forums to the ground? Absolutely.
Interesting hypothesis, do you have data to back that up, friend?
Because I do believe I have said time and time again, and you can even look in my post history, "I would eat a permanent ban if the forums were to be cleaned up" or "I would eat a ban if the forums were to be cleaned up."
This would suggest my problem isn't from getting banned as I don't mind getting banned. And I could screen shot what I've said to the people that have permanently banned me from their hubs. Which would immediately annihilate that argument. Because one screenshot would reveal my reaction was, "S'all cool, I get why y'all did it." and the other is a literal apology where I admit that don't even care if they read it or unban me, so long as I get the apology off my chest.
No, my good sir. The truth is that the rules seem to be selectively enforced only when someone says a bad word about someone else. Scams? Nothing done about them. Doxxing? Not a thing. Impersonation? Not a chance.
In fact, I've reported someone insulting the intelligence of another member, directly in, not at all subtle language. Comment was never removed. No warning, no ban. Nothing.
So if Valve is only going to give the appearance of doing anything... might as well just stop with the appearances and do nothing.
By the way, tell me if you want me to grab those screenshots for you. I'll be happy to, friendo.
Maybe it would... except... I guess it would not have noticeable impact on others' activities.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's about vendetta or leaving some sort of lasting message (for a lack of better words).
Not that I care at this point...
My days of caring about inconsistencies and quality of service provided are long gone.
I just embrace near complete defeatism and pessimism at this point...
Nothing matters anymore...
Eh, it's more like do one or the other. Sorta just giving them a choice, would basically be the same thing in the end.
They abolish the rules, the forums would devolve so badly so quickly that they'd have to go scorched earth.
They go scorched earth, the staff doesn't need to do anything anymore.
Which is kind of funny because the entire topic isn't, "The forum staff are bad because I got banned" it's "They don't do much of anything... so what's the point of this performative rigamarole"
