I mean, when you have Gabe Newell saying stuff like this, it's kind of hard to ignore. I don't think it should be restricted on Steam, but I don't think people should be forced to use it. There is a massive psyops to stop people from using AI since it can be extremely useful.
Ah yes, that's what we're calling a bunch of artists that are pissed off that we're being stolen from now. A psyops.
Hey, just a question. If you made a chair and you were real proud of that chair, but someone came in and stole that chair saying, "It's mine now." and then just started frakensteining that chair into other chairs while you get no money from it... how would you feel about that?
Because that's what AI does. Not with chairs... yet, but with literature, drawings, paintings, music...
If you're for AI, you can search for just AI generated games. If you're not, you can filter them out.
If you don't care either way, you never mess with it.
It's a win-win for everyone. Doesn't need to be antagonistic.
That having been said, I am perfectly fine to see the anti-AIbros have a filter if we can also get similar filters for third party launchers, similar DRM, and kernel level modules. Win win for everyone. I may disagree with their feelings but there's really no sense in denying them procedurally like this, as their feelings are honestly held.
There's a difference between reading a guide and literally plagiarizing
This... actually is something I can get behind and would make a concession towards.
We have text AI winning double blind tests now. And eventually we are going to have to deal with people who are good enough at it that it isn't obvious and aren't so honest about declaring it in advance. The witch hunts from that are gonna be something.
But Valve has the data now and so a toggle can be provided.
This quote is about stuff like VACnet where machine learning provides actual benefits to society. It's not about slop. You don't become a better accountant by making a blurry picture of sonic the hedgehog with three arms.
