[Feature Suggestion] Dynamic Profiles: Automatically change profile themes based on time of day
Hello Steam Team and Community,

I would like to propose a new feature that could significantly enhance profile personalization and increase the value of items in the Points Shop.

The Concept: "Dynamic Profile Appearance" (or "Live Profile")

The core idea is to give users the ability to automatically change their profile's appearance (Game Profile, Avatar, Background) based on the time of day or other user-defined triggers.

Example Implementation:
A new section, "Dynamic Appearance," could be added to the profile settings. Within this section, a user could set up simple rules:
  • Rule 1 ("Day Mode"):
    • Condition: Time is between 08:00 and 20:00.
    • Action: Apply the "War Machine" Game Profile.
  • Rule 2 ("Night Mode"):
    • Condition: Time is between 20:01 and 07:59.
    • Action: Apply the "Snowy Dream" Game Profile.

Addressing Security Concerns:
To prevent this system from being flagged as botting or suspicious activity, the implementation could be as follows:
  • A user enables the entire feature with a single checkbox: "Enable Dynamic Appearance."
  • If this feature is ENABLED by the user, the Steam security system recognizes that automated profile changes will occur regularly. These changes are then treated as legitimate and user-sanctioned, bypassing any suspicion flags.
  • If the feature is DISABLED, any external attempts to automate profile changes would be treated as suspicious activity, just as they are now.

Benefits for Valve and the Community:
  • For players: A new, deep level of personalization and self-expression, allowing their profiles to feel more alive.
  • For Valve: Increased engagement with the Steam Points ecosystem. This feature would incentivize users to purchase MORE profile bundles to create their own dynamic collections, which could directly boost sales in the Points Shop.

This seems like a well thought out idea that a lot of people would probably use with how popular profile customisation is.
