Steam option - "Do not notify my friends"
We have had for ages the option to go "invisible", but personally I don't mind my friends seeing when I'm online, or playing a game.
However, I don't like them being spammed when I'm figuring out what I want to play that particular day, launching 3 different games within 10 minutes.
Being invisible also has the downside of, uh, being invisible, and steam friends not being able to invite the invisible person when trying to play with them.

Therefore, I think we're missing two complimentary options:
- "Do not notify my friends when I launch steam / log in"
- "Do not notify my friends when I launch a game"

Alternatively, a "silent"/"sneaky" status in addition to "invisible"/"online"/"away" would alleviate the problem.

PS: I looked for a similar suggestion in the forum and didn't find anything, let me know if this is a duplicate.

Settings > Friends and chat > Sign in to friends when Steam starts > Turn it off.

Doesn't it have the exact same problem as Invisible mode ? As in not being able to get invited to games ?

People can already adjust their own settings to not show when friends launch steam or a game. So if your friends dont want spam they can turn it off themselves.

Steam -> Settings -> Notifications -> Then turn off toasts & sounds for when friends launch steam or join game.
