So many people in there with low effort troll posts or straight up bigoted nonsense typing and not even owning the game.
Please let me filter anyone who hasn't purchased a steam copy.
They may own the game on consoles or GOG.
and that would be the console or the GOG edition of the game, not steam.
Outside of the ignore system, Steam really doesn't take into consideration other platforms(and honestly it's likely for good reason since games can differ between platforms). Enabling such a system without also enabling an integration system into the platform to verify game ownership would defeat the purpose of this filter (as the user could just mark the box saying "yes I own it", and it's not worth the development hassle of making a brand new system when the existing system could just be modified to check for game ownership (which it already does because on the same page you can hover over comments and see the gametime).
All this filter would do is hide said comments/posts that don't show a gametime.
The game devs can do that at any time they wish to.
In practice though, it's become a complete un-moderated warzone in an attempt to make games look less appealing to crowds.
I can't enter game discussions anymore and see what peoples opinions about it are, it's just cluttered with comments/brigades from people who don't even own the game complaining about some small detail about it they heard online or saw in another review.
It's made the discussion forums basically useless to me. Having a user side ability to filter out owned vs unowned would be amazing for people who want an actual opinion of the game they are looking on the page for, without having to sift through all the spam.
That's fine. They could still post. I would still like the option to filter these out. Most don't own the game and are just here to troll and if not they aren't part of the Steam community and I'm fine with choosing to filter the few out to make the discussions more usable.
