Private Wishlist

Here's how it should work:

The Wishlist section would have two tabs: "Public Wishlist" (the current one) and "Private Wishlist" (the new one). When adding a game to your wishlist, you could choose which list to put it in (for example, via a dropdown menu). There should also be an easy way to move games between the lists. The Private Wishlist would not be shown on your user profile, would not be visible to friends, and would not affect the "Friends Wishlist" Steam recommendations. Only the account owner has access to it. To keep the system useful for developers, games in the private wishlist could still be factored into personalized discount algorithms and recommendations from Steam (so developers can see overall demand, but not specific accounts).

Likely due to a wish list being a list of things you'd want but can't get and allowing others to know that list so they may buy one or more of the games for you, that is simply how a wish list anywhere outside of steam works and likely works exactly the same here.

This is a personal list, so you can immediately buy and hide the items you've purchased.

A lot of stores make it where you can have a private wishlist. They could have an option where they have a public list and a private list. Its MY wishlist not everyone elses. The problem is more so the activity. Why does everyone need to know I wishlisted and NSFW game.

Amazon begs to differ.
And that is just an example - plenty of platforms with customisable wishlist privacy out there...

The whole POINT of this idea - which btw, OP, I agree with! - is to allow people to use wishlist on Steam as a "scratchpad" or a sort of "notes list" or really ANY other way and without having to tell all their friends on Steam "my wishlist is wildly inaccurate, PLEASE ASK before you buy me anything".

Many users on Steam - myself included - add things to Steam wishlist to "research later" and not necessarily an "I am interested in this 100% right NOW"...
The way I personally handle this right now, is that I custom-sort the list, and tell my friends "first X entries are CORRECT, everything else - do not buy me".
However this is cumbersome and gets even more so the longer your wishlist becomes.

Having a separate public wishlist for "DE FACTO what I WANT people to give me" and a separate list for "my private research list" ( or notes, or whatever ) purposes would be very nice and I wish this feature would find it's way to Steam someday.
It's very long overdue!
