Steam Weekly Maintenance Alert
Add a dialog/message in steam notifications (that can be disabled) to alert people about impending shutdown of services on tuesday afternoons.

I think it catches too many people by surprise and they have no clue what is happening and cannot plan for it accordingly

When I get punched in the face every Monday morning, and every Monday morning I don't anticipate the next one, isn't it my fault for not remembering?

yes that is probably your fault. But i'm mostly concerned with the literal millions that are not aware of it
3PM Pacific Time, every Tuesday.

I think they'll figure it out.
it's on a rolling time table different for each region. as they have server clusters / data centers around the world. for my area, Eastern USA, it begins about 3pm and ends between 6pm to 9pm. Eastern time.

It is the exact same time for everyone in the world, 3PM Pacific Time. Convert it to your own time zone.

I highly doubt it will reduce the number of topics regarding maintenance. *user is presented with maintenance message* "I cannot have this! I have rights! I'll rant on the forum!". Essentially would do little for even less people.

how many people read the message from valve telling them their ban is permanent and cannot be undone come flocking to the forums to make the same post begging for unbans?

You can never make enough stuff to stop people from being stupid, they will always find a way.
People would be surprised when they're just about to pull off their greatest ever gaming moment and up pops a warning saying "maintenance in ten minutes..."

I'm sure they'll love the fact they got a warning and then have to wait for maintenance to be finished. So, instead of having someone complain about one thing (they know happens every week at around the same time) it would create two things for them to complain about...

You've been on Steam since about March 27th 2008 and you still don't know when maintenance happens...
