Too many editions of games.
Maybe it’s just me but every time I want to buy a game there are TOO MANY EDITIONS. Regular, gold, deluxe etc etc . I come with the intention of making a purchase get fed up and log out. Happens EVERY time. Haven’t gamed in months. Haven’t purchased a new game in months.

I never had a problem with choosing what version I want, if there are multiple ones. Also its far from "every" time, as most of my games only have one version. AAA titles have multiple ones more often though.

That's marketing for ya. Personally it bit me in the rear once or twice, but nowadays I aim specifically for 'Complete' bundles when on sale. Worst I had since then was only SD Gundam having no difficulty DLC included with season pass, so I had to get Ultimate Edition (season pass included) and difficulty mode DLC separately. Mildly confusing.

Its the publishers who decide how many editions there are for a game. Valve is not going to tell companies they can only have X amount.

If you want less choice, then buy the cheapest edition thats on a page and convince others to do that too. Or start telling devs/publishers to stop making so many editions in their own games discussion areas.

They are not coming to this discussion area to see what people think about their game and Valve is not going to pass on your message.

Steam doesn't force publishers to release many editions.

^^ This. And it's the publishers doing it.

I usually just go for the GOTY/complete edition that comes out after a while.

The different editions are mostly just base game plus some or all dlc. You can always get the base game for now and look out for DLC or edition upgrades later. I find more often the extras are just fluff. If there's an actual extra content like a new campaign or something, I'll just get it later when it's discounted.

I was just wondering if anyone agrees with my opinion.

It's just you.

Now to be fair , for many games, the deluxe or what have you is just the game+Soundtrack/artbook. SO you don't have to worry about. Now there are some games from certain developers where you need a spreadsheet to figure things out and to those cases i say. Feck it and buy something that has more respect for my intelligence.

I don't, because I don't care if there is one edition or 2 dozen different editions. As long as there is one that gives me everything and I can buy it at 75% off or more once everything is out.

It more annoys me when there isn't different editions of games and they don't put their DLC on sale as often as the game itself because I would much rather buy everything at once.

But I'm also not the kind of person that buys a new game the moment its released. There was only a few games I was going to do that for, but didn't because they did things I didn't like (put invasive DRM in the game and/or went paid exclusive with epic at the last second for 6 months to a year).

Again I don't care if there was 1 or 1000 editions, just as long as there is one that includes everything. If there isn't, then why bother with a bunch of different editions.

Also again... ranting here does nothing. Valve isn't the one that forces all the versions, they are also not going to tell a game developer/publisher they can only have X number of editions. They are also not going to pass along your rant about all this.

If you only want 1 or 2 editions of a game, then tell the developers/publishers directly in their games discussion area or on their website find an e-mail.

Most companies thrive on reselling the same thing over and over even if it's just with minor altercations. There is also the issue with media getting added content consumers didn't pay for, or media getting updated with content that was not available at the time, and therefor had to be updated as was the case before patches were a thing. Same goes for audio/video related media where you have various cuts or remasters.

TLDR: As long as there is demand and a market things will keep getting updated indefinitely.

So, if I've understood correctly, the task of comparing more than a few versions is already overwhelming? Oh brace yourself. There are harsher challenges ahead in life ...
Koei-Tecmo usually makes an easy to read flowchart to make this simple. HITMAN had a turbulent development cycle of essentially making the same game for over a decade across multiple publishers but it's honestly good enough that it's worth hitting up the forums to make the 400th "How do I buy the game?" post and get a straight answer.

Most other AAA games I just don't buy so I don't have this trouble. Either way this isn't something Steam is likely to fix, they don't enforce customs like this.

What I’m saying is it’s a pain in the ass. And as far as harsher challenges in life, I’m probably four times your age. I’ve had my share of challenges. Thank you.
