Limit spam posting of screenshot.
I have noticed, in some games, players are posting their entire day's play, to the screenshots section. Dozens upon dozens of shots most quite mundane. This makes it impossible to view all the posts for a day, and many really good, attractive, interesting shots are buried beneath 100's of boring shots from five or six players.

I recently went to try to make sure that the funny shot I had posted was there, even on "most recent" I could not find it so I posted a different shot, likewise, it was not visible.

So, I blocked a user with over 40 posts and counting, I never reached the bottom. Still not there. I blocked a total of six users each with in excess of 30 shots in "today". Then because there was so much work for my computer to churn through I had to leave Steam to work through the list. Half an hour later I was able to see, and to rate up, some brilliant shots from players who had posted single or very few selected pictures. Sadly, I expect very few will be seen by anyone else unless they have done the same as I have.

With these players blocked, I will never be able to view any good pictures they may post, and, even worse, I cannot read anything they have to say in discussions.

Would it be possible to either set a daily maximum (6 or 8 perhaps) per game, or to have a screenshot portfolio which activates at say 3 or 4 shots and allow the player to choose one shot as his/her portfolio cover.

I don't like the idea of blanket blocking anyone but, it is wrong that a very few players can block out screenshots from everyone who picks their posts carefully and for a reason.

Reducing the size of screenshots would help a bit perhaps, but not if one player can occupy several pages.

It's absolutely true -- and should constitute spam.

The sheer volume of this junk also points to bot activity.
What human being has the ability to play and post...post...post...post...post in real time?

It looks to me like they press F12 every couple of minutes while playing then bulk post immediately after the start of a new day (1 am, my time.) Or, yes, it could be bot.

They'll hit their 18.6GB limit after about 25.5k screenshots.

It definitely becomes ludicrous, and plagues a lot of older/retro titles that may not see the most traffic.

It's obviously filler, and 18GB of filler is a lot of real estate -- especially when multiplied by an unlimited amount of potential abusers...

Yep, very funny!

Then delete the oldest to make room for their new spam central thus effectively fully congesting the screenshot section for the game in question. :steamsad: My bet is they waste time on a daily basis clearing down their oldest posts to make room for their newest.

As an easy suggestion on how to curtail this behavior -- without limiting anyone's ability to post, or shrinking data availability -- would be to require all user-uploaded screenshots to have a text description.

This would stop bulk uploads without considerable effort on the uploader's behalf, and would clearly identify spammers who'd just put '.' or a random character.

Not a bad idea.

Can we actually report this bulk posting as spam? Or put another way, if we reported it, would any action be taken?

I think they should limit it to 5-10 screenshot uploads per day.
If people upload more, nobody is looking at that anyway.

Same should go for artworks. But there rather 1-2, per day.
And Steam should limit review publishing to 1-2 per day, since there are too many people that upload "funny" one liners in masses.

This wouldn't fly, especially due to the Steam Curator system -- which is utilized by private groups & professional developers/publishers, alike.

Reviews are an outlet completely separate from the OP's issue in question -- which involves curtailing abuse of a limitless system. Users are limited to one review per game. Nobody is spamming anything with that.

Agreed, screenshots should be limited to something like 5 per game hub, in one day.

:chbee: My laziness clashes with daily uploading! :rl2shrug: I suppose “appearing in the recent activity” isn’t really a concern for me, either, TBH.

Yeah, but that doesn't help if people publish "this game sus" as a review, for 20 games in a row in one day. :sadcloud:

And don't get me started on these cult like groups or the useless curator system.

But i agree that we first need a daily limit for screenshots.
I know others will not like this but I wish they wouldn't have allowed user uploads at all or at least let us hide what we don't want to see or from whom, it's a waste of space and there are plenty of this stuff on other site/platforms not sure why the spam is needed.

After I blocked those 6 players I mentioned I discovered two wonderfully funny screenshots. I still chuckle when I think about them. They were priceless! For this reason, I would not want screenshot posting stopped. Also, I have seen, on another game, where players have used screenshots to explain a problem or bug. This is also a legitimate use of screenshots and it is actually an important facility for that purpose. In addition, we should not forget that a picture is worth a thousand words when making a Guide or simply explaining a game mechanic.

We need the screenshot facility, but, as it is now it does not, for some games, function properly due to spamming. It cannot, in infected games, be used as intended to benefit the whole community, therefor it is a useless vehicle for individual hubris.
