option to post to thread without bumping
you ever have that time you want to add to a thread, but don't want it to end up back at the top of page one?

suggesting an option for that.
for the user to turn on/off before they reply.
subscribed people would still get notified, but the thread wouldn't resurface.

adding to a thread without bumping is adding to the post via the edit button, unless you mean you want to add to a thread youve never posted in?

If it’s an active forum, how would anyone see it to subscribe to it?

It could quickly drop off the page if it’s not a popular topic , rendering it moot.

Well honestly it can be helpful to a degree
Lets say you want to inform users on a big post about a feather that it was implmented there no real need to bump it, but you may still want to notify who is on it all ready
Or case I had just now wanted to update my post but without bumping it higher, edit just dose not inform the outher users about (that is mostly good)

Don't see any point to this. If your adding in a meaningful way its a post, if your making tiny clarifications its edit. There is no harm in a thread being bumped, nor any reason it SHOULDN'T be bumped if its relevant and on topic.

If someone is updating a thread and adding to it then it SHOULD be bumped and visible to everyone, not just those who subscribed to it.

Otherwise people would just be having entire discussions with threads never being bumped and people not knowing about them which defeats the point of a forum.

Why are you adding to a thread if you dont want it 'bumped' to the top. Under what situation would this even be needed

This seems counter-intuitive. The only way users see posts is if they are updated other than being subscribed which is not very common. Ergo the best way to 'tell users' about something is to post about it and for said post to surface.

This seems like a terrifyingly bad way to get a dozen notifications because someone edited the post. I mean I have to edit announcements in the forum a dozen times usually to get all the formatting correct. I dont have the desire to spam people with notifications because I made several spelling errors

i dont mean anyone gets a notification whenever a user edits a thread.
Why even post if you don't want people to read new posts?

Not all users return to the forums all that much
Some topics may be around on the main all ready, but may want to inform an older topic about an update that happen giving that idea into Steam, when its something that is not easily seen without looking for it
I cant recall right now what it was but there was an update once happen and there where many older topics asking for it, but if you inform them your bumping a really old thread about suggestion the idea, not about the idea being there now

I think its a legit reason to do so
And unlike edit it may be able to give notification to the users that are sub to it
