Using my account without Steam Guard
Recently I changed my smartphone, and as a result I was locked out of using the Steam Market.
Then I installed Steam Guard on my smartphone, but didn't use it for seven days because, duh, it's not very useful. So I was locked out of using the Steam Market.
I contacted support to see if there was a way to use the Steam Market with less hassle. I was told I could change those settings, which I did, and guess what? I was locked out of using the Steam Market.

I get that it's for increased account security. I get that. But at the same time, it's a giant hassle and here's the kicker: I never asked for this. My account is perfectly secure because I'm not a moron. I don't need to be hassled every time I change smartphones or want to list something on the market.
Since when is a smartphone, what should be an optional device for using Steam, more important than the desktop computer on which I use steam 99% of the time? That 1%, by the way, is entirely used downloading the Steam Mobile Guard Authenticator™ or using it to confirm that it's really me listing my TF2 crates for $0.03.
Additionally, my smartphone, being a portable and stealable device, is significantly less secure than my desktop, which criminals would need a crane and a flatbed truck to steal.
In my opinion it's unnecessary and a giant disservice to users.

My suggestion: allow users to opt out of it but still be able to use the Steam Market/trading. Have us check a million checkboxes or whatever it takes to get us to agree to having less secure accounts in exchange for not having to jump through hoops like a dog at a show to sell our worthless items on the Steam Market. It's my money and I need it now!
Alternatively, make it so that listings don't expire so I don't have to constantly relist my worthless crates, which is the main cause of me having to use Steam Guard so got dang often.

There will never be an option to opt out.

Transfer the mobile app correctly using the same number for 2 day trade holds and ~36 hour Market listing holds.

Why do there need to be holds at all?
My listings got held for fifteen days because I didn't log in to the Steam Mobile Guard Authenticator™ for seven. That's ridiculous. Literally ridiculous. Deserving of ridicule.

And the point of my post is, it's a giant pain in the ass so change it back to how it used to be, without the excessive hassle to the end user.

Because you disabled it to put it on the new phone.

This is the correct way using the same number...

I used my special code, but was still not allowed to use the Steam Market for 7 or 15 days... that original restriction is now gone, but these remain on my account:

The Market is unavailable for the following reason(s):
You are logging into The Market from a device that has not been protected by Steam Guard for 7 days. More info...
You have recently reset or enabled Steam Guard, you must wait 15 days after Steam Guard was enabled. More info...
Your account must be protected by Steam Guard for at least 15 days. To remove this restriction...

To clarify again, since you seem to not understand my purpose in being here, I get the rules and restrictions on using Steam Guard all too well. I understand them.

I'm saying that they're unnecessary and annoying.

I'm suggesting we allow users to opt-out of using Steam Guard, but still have access to the Steam Market.

It tells you right there that you disabled Guard in the process.

You did not do it the correct way. That is why, for future reference, transfer it correctly.

Steam Guard will always be necessary to use the Market.

Steam Guard Email =/= Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator

You can use either and don't disable them entirely.

Bruh how many times do I need to tell you?
In my original post I explained that the Steam Support person who helped me said it was optional so I turned it off. Then I found out I couldn't use anything, so I turned it back on less than a minute later but I still have those restrictions.

I UNDERSTAND that that's how it works.
I'm suggesting that that's not how it should work.

You do get that this is the "Suggestions/ideas" section of the forum, and that I'm not asking for help on how to use Steam Guard, I'm suggesting that we get rid of it.

The moment you disabled it was when the restriction was triggered.

There is a reason why it is not optional.

And it would be even more convientient for all the scammers/hijackers because gullible users will never die out.

Also, the Steam Market is not a right, it is a privilege.

You don't have to make not using Steam Guard the default setting. You could make it something that's possible to activate buried deep within account settings that the average idiot would never be able to find or think to even look for, let alone activate. Like your privacy settings on Facebook.

That in absolutely no way means it has to be difficult or cumbersome to use.

Buried or not wouln't matter. You also need Steam Guard to post on the forums.

The way it is set up is how they want it to be. To protect everyone from fraud.

I had the exact same problem, I changed phones and couldn't access steam because of Steam guard - I had to go to my old phone to allow me into Steam and then I just completely deleted the guard because it was too much of a hassle and it didn't see the point of using it.

When your account gets hijacked don’t complain about “lack of security”

This is my point exactly; it's a massive headache.

My computer is in the corner of my room where it takes up all of the power outlets for various devices such as the computer itself, modem, monitor, etc.
My smartphone charges across the room at another outlet near my bed, so I can check it at night/turn off my alarm in the morning.
It's across the room. That means when I want to list something on the market, I need to get up, walk across the room, pull up the Steam Mobile Guard Authenticator Asinine App™ and check a bunch of boxes to confirm that it's really me trying to list some worthless TF2 crates for $0.03.
I am careful with my account and computer and would appreciate not being treated like a child who can't wipe their own ass.
