How can I disable the steam voice chat ringing sound?
Is there a way were just a notification pops up or can I just change the sound because I cannot stand that horrible ringing noise it makes me not want to talk to however is calling.

i think you can disable all sounds from notifications, which might work. also you can try disabling steam ingame community stuff. i've tried replacing the file with a simple beep so as to make it less annoying, but to no avail.

turns out even if you disable notification sounds you still get ringing, i guess you just have to block everyone except you who are playing with.

go to freinds list and click the little down arrow/triangle next to their name, then in the drop down menu click 'block all communication...'

You can just replace the .wav file with another. This could have a different ring tone or be completely silent. You'll find the .wav files in Steam\resource and it's named voice_ringing.
it changes it back i even tried making it a read only file

well people have been asking for a way to disable or customize voice chat settings seperate from text for years, and you used to be able to replace the .wav file to change the annoying ringing, but now you can't. so it looks like everything or nothing for now. maybe in the next few years it will become an issue and things will change.

what i ended up doing is opening the volume mixer and turning steam all they way down to zero

that works as long as you have that feature in windows.

Also very annoying is, that the ringing sound is continuously ringing - even if the caller hung up already!!
Why does it do that!? There is no use in this, please fix this.

Go to the drive where your steam is installed.

Example (Where mine is, Yours may be in Programs(x86))

H:\Games\Steam\resource

In the steam folder, look for the "resource" folder and search ".wav"

Delete the following:

voice_busy.wav
voice_ringing.wav
voice_dialing.wav

Enjoy the silence.

this used to be the way you could get rid of that ringing. unless they changed something since last i checked, restarting steam undoes all that work. of course it will undo it anytime it updates, and after you finish playing a game as well. if they did change this though then that is great.

I haven't tested this, and it could tell the Steam client the files are broken and must be re-acquired; but what if you replace the files with similar named files with the same file extension?

Just tested: Nope.

It would be great if we could disable the voice chat ringing sound

have a real life friend there always starts the chat with that because he knows it annoys me and i will not block him since this is a good friend we are just always trolling each other, but i am getting to the point where this sound makes me want to punch him hard ^^

ps. someone create a topic inside steam suggestions about this :P
