Were you using the trading window or what?
If his offer of money was outside the trading window, then you shouldn't have conducted the trade. Period. You can report the scammer but, for all intents and purposes, you just gave him your items.
Was the scammer's money inside the trading window? Did it appear in the same trading window as your goods?
Someone else will have to explain that. I don't do online trades but even I know that if it isn't in the trading window, don't accept the trade.
Am sorry you got scammed. Try reporting the scammer to Steam Support and SteamRep. I doubt you'll get your items back but at least people will be aware.
You can not trade money/Steam wallet funds at all through Steam or the trade window.
What he did was use a chat function, the "/me" command. It is an action function in the chat client that Steam is removing in the next update.
Example-
I type:
/me waves hello.
It shows as:
Totoro waves hello.
Scam:
/me has added $20 to the trade. You will recive the funds after the trade is compleat.
You see it as:
Totoro has added $20 to the trade. You will recive the funds after the trade is compleat.
