Multiple players in one household
My wife and I are both trying to get in the same game with different computers on the same wireless network. One or the other keeps getting a "kicked by user" message. Is there anyway that we could both be able to log-in and play together??

Yes, get a second account and buy the game for it.

Steam will only let you use the account on one computer at a time. You can't use the same account on two computers like that.

Due to lack of information, I am guessing that is the issue. If not, give more infomation and we will see what else can be done.

We each have our own account and have each bought the game. We have each gone in and our own user names come up on the lobby page, but we just can't join the same game.

Have you tried making a private game for just the two of you?

Just to test and see if it is the game and not people kicking you for no reason.

We can get into seperate games at the same time, just not the same game to play together. Running broadband connection, her machine wired from the router, my machine wireless connection.

she hosted a game, the two of us and two others but not just a 2-person hosted game

From this discussion it seems you have the same account logged in at two different computers.
While logged in (and predictibly kicked the other computer off) pick change user from the steam menu in the main window and then make sure you enter the right info manually. Do this for both machines.
The logged in user's steamID name is in the top right of the main steam window. It will also show "logging into xxxx's account" when you start steam up.

So you both tried to create your own game and it still happened?

Yes, both tried a game where we are the only two players, still happens. Neither one of us can load up. We are both on our own accounts, on seperate machines but are sharing the network connection. If she is in a game, I can join another game and play at the same time, we just can't play together in the same game.

I can't find anything about this issue anywhere else. My wife and I just tried and it works fine for us. I suggest asking in the L4D2 forums. Someone there is more likely to have had experiance with this issue.
