Going by the Steam forums, a large number of British people seem to confused as to whether they own a credit card or not. A debit card is not a credit card, and it won't work when Steam says to enter a credit card to verify your age. If you did indeed add a credit card instead of a debit card, keep it connected to your Steam profile.
No. The UK does not accept debit cards as a form of age verification.

Besides how could some random third party have any power over your steam account. Do you'll think they'll ask Valve real nice and Valve says ok?
It's a hijacked account that is used to spam this copy/pasta. They don't reply.
