Make sure both your PC and Steam Link device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, the IP address is entered correctly, Remote Play is enabled in Steam, and try restarting your router and disabling the firewall temporarily.
That message usually means Steam Link can’t connect to your PC on the local network, often because of one of these reasons:

1. Your PC and your phone/TV aren’t on the same Wi-Fi network.

Both must be on the same router and same frequency band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).

2. Your PC’s IP changed (for example after restart).

Open Steam on your PC → click Steam › Settings › Remote Play › Advanced Host Options → note your IP there.

On Steam Link, remove the old PC and re-add it with the new IP.

3. Windows Firewall or antivirus is blocking Steam Remote Play.

Try temporarily disabling firewall or add an exception for:

Steam.exe

steamwebhelper.exe

StreamServer.exe

4. VPN or mobile hotspot interference.

Disable VPNs or proxies on both devices.

5. Manual IP typed incorrectly.

Make sure the IP format looks like 192.168.x.x — no spaces or extra characters.

---

how to fix

1. On PC → open Steam › Settings › Remote Play → make sure it’s enabled.

2. Reboot both your PC and Steam Link device.

3. Open Steam Link → tap Rescan → select your PC again.

4. If it still fails, manually enter your PC’s local IP (type ipconfig in Windows › Command Prompt to find it).
