Family Member Got Scammed Using Steam Wallet Codes
My adult younger brother who joined a new company recently got an email from his company's "founder" asking him to buy Steam Wallet Codes and send them over to him for an event, and that he would get reimbursed.

This Wheatley literally purchased a couple codes worth several tens of thousands, not once, but twice, and gave them to the scammer, which were immediately redeemed. I read through their email thread at it literally looked like two NPCs talking to each other, both using AI.

I help him immediately file a complain on our local Cyber Crime Portal and even contacted the Credit Card company, but since the cards were purchased via Amazon, there is little to no hope.

I know Steam Support rocks, and while there isn't any hope, I was wondering if they could at least permaban the person who redeemed the codes (and any future accounts he creates) to prevent him from scamming anyone ever again.

I couldn't find any way to do this via the Support fields on their site. I hope someone from Valve finds this and helps me out here. It's a ton of money that he can't afford to lose as of now.

Account security is always your responsibility. Steam will not assist you. Next time, be a lot more vigilant. All scams are incredibly obvious.

Can you do a chargeback?

If you know the scammer's Steam account you can report them on their profile page. Keep in mind that scammers often use hijacked accounts or throw-away accounts.

This is a user forum. No Valve employees here.

Check out the support article about Steam Wallet Gift Card Scams.
