Problem with cloud
I am experiencing an issue with the cloud storage on Steam. The cloud saves are enabled for one of my games, but they are not functioning properly due to corrupted files and mods stored in the cloud. When I try to launch the game and download the latest version, the game simply stops responding.
I would like to know how to clear the cloud storage of specific game data. I have attempted to do so, but have been unsuccessful. Can you please help me resolve this issue?

Experiencing the same issue with Divinity Origional Sin 2. Cloud shows in syn on steam but app shows error on the cloud saves.
To be clear you want to *delete/erase* your game save files on the steam cloud?

If yes, there few ways to tell steam that said game is running, that main goal is to trick client thinking game is running, can use any portable standalone application just place it in game folder, and rename it file to game .exe that steam be running. As long it see it running, you can go ahead delete game save files manually, or move them somewhere else if you wish to keep them. Once done force close the application that pretended be the game, this will prompt steam to sync deleting what on the cloud.

If you're trying to make game run with said save files, using mods, some games holds data from mods which requires it to function, and without the mod installed that needed, or unless using our of date, or uncompatible latest updated version causing the issue then can't use save file at all due to the said mod. Can try Nexus mods if the mod you're trying to use is there, as Nexus mod should have history of older version, unless the modder removed it for whatever reason.
I have no mods installed..and have been using these various saves for hundreds of hours. As of this morning it's saying there is an issue with them and the game can't see any of them.
Showing the saves as 'Incompaitable'

If the issue is cloud sync unable upload, this could be due to limit reach, which I don't think the case unless the dev intentionally set cloud limit for said game to be low, despite whole service is free for dev costing them nothing, and limit high as 2GB per game for cloud storage.

If game can't read any of your save files, then this could be permissions issue, or something messing with files & permissions for game, or client. Example using cloud service apps like OneDrive, GoolgeDrive, or etc which is deleting, corrupting, or even replacing files. Another thing can happen is using 3rd party anti virus that doing false positives quarantine, or if using something that hooking into apps causing thing not work correctly.

High chance is if you left mods which wasn't deleted, and causing game not work correctly as it should be.

These are guess on what I can say, but you can check on PCGamingWiki see where save file location, and check if the save files are there.

Then either you're running older/beta version of the game, save relying on mods to work.

Right click on game on steam via Library > click on properties > check beta tab, and see if there different versions in that page.

No luck..This game is Divinity Origional Sin 2. It probably hasn't had a Beta in a number of years and certainly none now. Over 18 gig of available space. Ran check integrity and no issues. The saves are still there..they just show 'incompaitable'. I never downloaded a mod..but any mods created are years old and supported. Also was playing on these files less than 24 hours ago, with no changes by me inbetween.
Tried a different game and it had an issue with the cloud as well..though it at least had local copies and let me use those.
I found the issue..it changed default to the classic edition. Really sorry Sigmaslav to jump in your discussion. Was thinking there was a larger cloud issue. Please focus on their concern.
