Video Freezes While Audio Plays During Gameplay Recording on Steam Deck
I’m reaching out to share a persistent issue I’ve been experiencing on the Steam Deck while recording gameplay, hoping to gain insight or advice.

During gameplay recording sessions, the videos initially play normally for a few seconds, but then the video freezes completely while the audio continues uninterrupted. This creates a situation where it seems like the recording is fine, but in reality, the visual content is unusable. This behavior has been consistent and occurs across multiple games and recording sessions.

What makes this issue particularly frustrating is that it interrupts the ability to capture gameplay reliably, which is one of the Steam Deck’s core advertised features. Audio continues perfectly, so it’s clear that the recording system is partially functioning, but the video stream appears to get interrupted, corrupted, or improperly encoded. This can significantly affect creators, streamers, and anyone looking to preserve their gameplay moments.

From what I’ve seen in forums and community posts, this is not an isolated incident, many Steam Deck users experience similar problems. The fact that this problem exists indicates a potential underlying issue with recording under load, media encoding, or the way SteamOS handles recorded files.

I’m interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced this problem or has insight into why the Steam Deck may fail to finalize the video stream while keeping the audio intact. Additionally, if Valve developers or community experts are monitoring, guidance on whether this is a known bug and if any fixes or workarounds exist would be greatly appreciated.

I hope some of you might also experience this and give me some advice on how to fix it, thank you
