Reply back.... most likely yes.
Get a free key.... unlikely.
But you at least have a chance with the devs or publishers.
Valve cannot just giveaway someone else's game. Unless they want to flip the bill for it. Which they 100% won't do.

In general if you want a game on that platform, you buy it on that platform. This isn't some free for all where the stores don't matter and the publisher is going to give you a second free license.
I mean your scenario is completely different. And whatever EA does may not be the same thing 2K does. Nor does it mean something working once will work in the future anytime you want free keys for different launchers.
Gearbox aren’t going to give you a free key, the only reason EA gave you a key is because EA CD Keys on Steam also used to work to activate a free copy on Origin too, but it stopped after EA left Steam in 2011.
