My controller isn't working and I'm unsure why.
Every time I plug in my controller it would work outside of the game but not in the game itself. And what annoys me more is that whenever I press R1 on my controller it opens up the steam overlay. can someone help with this issue?

Well you controll button work.

enter steam settings controller and reconfigurating it.

read other post about it, so many steam user have alot of diffrent issue over the many years
all about setup , sense steam fiddle with it.

ps.
i just bough a new 2-3 days ago, i did nothing to get it to work.

Which game, what controller? I am assuming a PS as you mentioned R1...

As Icerira says, I'd go into steam settings and config the controller as well, check the game settings and that it has detected the controller and if not, switch it over.
