Controller stopped being detected
I use a third-party Bluetooth Nintendo Switch controller. I have been using it for over a year with no issues, I was literally playing Silksong with it yesterday. But today my computer updated and suddenly it doesn't work in Steam anymore. I checked and my computer still sees it and reads inputs just fine, but Steam says there is no controller. I swear there used to be a way to add controllers to Steam but I can't find any options that help???

Edit: I have tried unpairing the controller, uninstalling Bluetooth drivers, restarting both Steam and the whole PC, nothing worked. The controller also still works for non-Steam games so I can confirm it isn't broken.

Stop buying reciver controller then you can buy a controll with usb cable connection, one lesser weak or should i said reduce faluthy possibilities.

You can find so many post with reciver get broken over time, they are not build to last, cheap crappy product made somewhere by crap compnay and crap countrys,

i bet user here think thery buy something that outlive them, we can all say thats not the case.

And yes i sound anfry , well maybe not, its more a mistake thinking such product last over 5 years, i have hear ppl buy new controller every 2-5 years , so now you might understand why i explan it like that.

pc. i just bought yeasterday a controll with usb-c cable in the controll and in pc USB, and NO i have no clue how long that will go and if hardware can hold, but i can tell you i dont have reciver end , and never will accpect such crap ever again.

- It hasn't been 5 years
- My experience with wired controllers is the wire gets frayed and broken in that same time frame anyway
- The controller still works, Steam just suddenly decided today that it doesn't recognize it anymore, and I'm wondering if there's like a driver setting or something that just needs changing

im not here to promote controller, but i bet no matter what controoler you once had use you might want same again, ( only reason i like this controll becuase i had a old 350 xbox in living room )
and got use to the felling in my hands. ) so this is not abnout whats best, this is about what you want and got use to have in hands.

I just stick with cable forever, ( if this idea i have is same as you feel free to find product we all like as cable only

to make it easy for all steam games this is 360 clone lookalike.
https://www.hyperkinstore.com/products/xenon-wired-controller

i dont care if you are PS user or other but , if you are same as me link whatever controll that dont use reciver, other steam user might had anough of them connection issue.

and i did nothing to get it to work at steam, ( if such matter to other steam user )

my reciver stop working and thats about it, and yes tried driver and all other things, so i blaim reciver for being weak in the production chain , i have controller that live longer then reciver.

and reciver cost ½ what a controll cost so its not worth it, how you are in this and what it cost you to replace it, i do not know, but the live on cable cost at my country that the cost is expensive on such , then its cheaper to buy a new controller with it, and thats the problem here.

Feel free to do as you see fit, but the reciver alone cost almost half of a new controller then we actual have a problem here. ( how this is in your contry i do not know )

Have you already tried un-pairing then re-pairing it to your BT?
Dranak 11 Sep @ 2:30am
You might not know this, any helper here can tell you, over the last 2-5 years, so many controller issue, yes sometimes its steam, other time its reciver other time controller itself or software that has OS issue, any here can tell you this is not going away, with steam over the last 10+ years has more and more games with it.

Bluetooth device is a send/reciver, and if device get broken, and yes they can get broken, then you end up with same choise as i and other are in, replace or change connections type as a solution.

its broken, just like so many other have faced, untill you give up in trying, and it worked yesterday or something like that.

your problem is now is it reciver or controller, thats broken, i bet its the reciver. unless you had a troll last night broken the controller , and what are the odds for that, thats you have thow the controller though air as rage fit over a game, most gamers knows that a bad idea only hurt ourself.

gl with it.

our controllers aren't broken. i have tried 3 of mine and steam isnt recognizing them. they work fine outside of steam games.
I discovered the FIX!!!, go to your steam settings and go to controllers, the update disabled the controller types in "External gamepad settings"

someday it will. ( recivers dont live forever )

and how dare you talk to all other steam user controller issue, i guess you did not read what i said. you cant get a controller to work if its broken in the reciver.

It feels like someone was bullied by wireless signals as a child or something...

Still no answer to this, I just changed to using a different pro controller but it's annoying because it keeps automatically pairing to the Switch and I have to disconnect it and re-pair it with the computer every time I want to play.
I had the same issue as you. A friend of mine found a program that helped me, look up betterjoy on github if you dont trust my link:
https://github.com/Davidobot/BetterJoy
Follow the instructions and install the drivers and your controller should connect as long as this program is running.
Paraphrasing what my friend said, it transforms the Nintendo controller into an Xbox one which somehow allows it to work.
