Does anyone know which file contains steam settings?
I need to know which file contains settings for
1) Friends and chat
and
2) Interface.

Steam loads default settings from the cloud. I make my settings, and next time i start steam, i see the damn storepage. And the friendlist with moving avatars and useless space and sorting.

And steam support thinks, that is ok like that.

It is very annoying and absolute nonsense. So i need to write protect that file.

The Steam client does NOT remember where you left; it always starts at your selected start page (Settings -> Interface -> Start Up Location).
No, when you play somehwere and the settings are not like yours, for an unknown reason steam believes its best to download that client default setting next time you start up steam on your pc

The default is store page at start up for example.

I need to write protect the file i am seraching to get this annoying "feature" to stop.

Because its maybe convenient in edge cases to download a setting, this causes me to have to make the settings each time.
This makes no sense.
Mine always boots to the library so something is interfering on your PC.
Try using geforce now. Go online in friends.
Next time you start steam, interface and friendlist and chat are default settings on your pc.

I do not use Geforce Now so that would point to something linked to it.
It points to the fact that steam has a function that makes people lose their settings.

But GeForce now obliterates all your local setting which is why it gets 'reset' each time.

Most local settings should be in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<staemid>\

I am not losing my settings because i do not use Geforce Now. Everything is as before when i boot Steam, therefore it points to something to do with Geforce Now and why you suggested.

The user should be able to disable such a reset.
Here is clearly an unwanted behaviour of steam.
