What exactly is a "Mature Theme" game?
I saw recently that a dev was denied early access because of "Mature Themes". I don't want to assume anything I want to know exactly what "mature themes" are from Valve.

I can't find a clear definition on steam anywhere.
Does anyone have a link to what Mature Themes means to Valve?

If I go to my game filtering system I can find Mature Content and it lists games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Schedule 1, DotA 2, and so forth.

There's an adult section I can and have filtered out, but their statement didn't state adult content it just said "mature themes."
Now I can assume things, but I also can assume other things could be considered mature themes.

Where's the defined rules set out in stone?

Why? It's not your game. That's between Valve and the devs.
Over the age of 18 is given a Mature rating for content. Steam will inforce ratings of everything sold on Stam client by Law.

Where is that written on steam?
And whose laws? The US? Or someone else's?

I think it is pretty important to know these things. Especially as if I want to publish an early access game I don't want it to be arbitrarily taken down or denied because of content that could be considered "mature" such as violence or excessive gore. It sounds like a raw deal for small devs.
Especially if you look up the definition of mature content and it says excessive gore there too.

Steam needs to have their rules clearly written and spelled out. None of this vague BS.

Seems the dev may have also violated the NDA by posting this communication.

If the developer didn't correctly label the game as mature, when it clearly contains mature content then that would explain why it was declined. Gotta add the correct age rating for what content is in the game. Cant have little kiddies seeing drugs, excessive gore ect because they labelled the game incorrectly.

You can see the guildlines here for what can not be published on steam

Didn't you see how much the forums exploded over the rules?

Now I fully agree, that content shouldn't be available to people who don't want to see it or don't meet the requirements to see it.

However, and maybe the developer is lying. But maybe not.
The message they got was, "Your app has failed our review because we're unable to support Early Access Model of Development for a game with mature themes. Please resubmit when your app is ready to launch without early access."

That to me doesn't sound like it was mislabeled or missing tags.
That sounds like they're outright not allowing it.

Now, if I was to want to publish a game in early access on steam. I want to know exactly what Mature Content is considered that would cause this.
Now I know, and you know. It probably is adult content they're referring to. However, I want it in writing in the rules very specifically.
