Hijacked Account – Unauthorized Market Purchase, No Refund from Steam Support
Hi everyone,

I’m posting here because I recently experienced a frustrating situation with my Steam account and I’m hoping for advice or support from the community.

My account was hijacked, and during that time, the attacker used my Steam Wallet funds to purchase a Dota 2 item (Sleeve of Bogatyr) for ₹74.56. This price is highly inflated and clearly not a normal market rate, which makes me suspect it was a laundering tactic by the attacker.

I’ve since secured my account—changed my password, enabled Steam Guard, removed unauthorized devices, and scanned my system for malware. Steam Support acknowledged that my account was compromised, but they’ve refused to refund or reverse the transaction, citing their policy on Community Market purchases.

I understand their policy, but this wasn’t a regular purchase—it was made during a confirmed hijack. I’ve asked for escalation and suggested Steam consider adding OTP or transaction-level authorization to prevent such financial losses in the future.

Has anyone here faced a similar issue and successfully recovered their funds or items? Any advice on how to proceed or get Steam to reconsider would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Steam Support will not restore stolen items nor stolen wallet funds.
In accordance with section 1 C of the Steam Subscriber Agreement, you are fully responsible for all actions on your account, no matter who used the account. This includes actions that occurred as the consequence of fraudulent account access by phishing or malware, be it input relay, session token theft or any other method that granted a third party access to your account.

Market transactions are final. Account security is your responsibility.

No, you don't get the stuff back.
