Unable to redeem steam gift because game is already in my library (via family sharing)
I got a game for my bday but it won't let me hit the "Accept gift" button - when I hover over it it says "This gift is already in your library" but I don't own the game myself (I have access to it through family sharing). I really want to own the game so I can always play it whenever but it's just not letting me redeem the gift. How can I accept the gift to own a copy of the game myself?

Yeah, that’s a known limitation in Steam. If you have a game available through Family Sharing, Steam still treats it as “in your library,” which blocks you from redeeming a gift copy. The only way around it is for the person who sent you the gift to revoke it and instead either:
– Send it to a different email address/Steam account of yours, or
– Refund it and re-purchase it directly to your account as a gift purchase.

Sadly, you can’t override the Family Sharing flag yourself. You’ll need to ask the sender to resend or refund.
