Performance Monitor can detect frame generation but DLSS cannot
Hi everyone, I have a small matter to ask.

About 2-3 NVIDIA driver version updates ago, Steam's performance monitor was working fine for me, but now it no longer seems to recognize that DLSS is on.
I enabled the DLSS indicator in the registry to confirm that the game is indeed using DLSS, and there's a noticeable difference in sharpness and frame rate when I turn on/off the in-game DLSS option, so I assume DLSS is working, but I'm not sure why Steam's performance monitor isn't detecting it.
The frame generation indicator is normal, and it will change instantly based on the in-game option switches.

Has anyone had a similar situation? I searched Google for some posts but couldn't find any mention of similar issues.
Hardware: I'm using single ROG Strix 4090, Beta version of the Steam client, and Windows 11 23H2. NVIDIA Drivers 581.15.

Steam’s performance overlay doesn’t directly read DLSS status from the game; it relies on NVIDIA’s driver reporting hooks. Something must have changed in the 58x branch, because many people have noticed that DLSS no longer shows in overlays like Steam’s, even though the feature is clearly active.

Frame Generation still shows correctly because that’s exposed differently in the driver API. DLSS is trickier since it’s tied to render scaling rather than a standalone toggle the overlay can read.

So the good news is: DLSS is still working — the Steam monitor just can’t detect it right now. Best bet is to either:
– Wait for NVIDIA or Valve to fix the reporting API in an upcoming driver/Steam update.
– Or use the in-game DLSS indicator / GeForce Experience performance overlay, which still recognize DLSS correctly.

It’s not a problem with your hardware or setup — it’s just the overlay not catching the driver’s DLSS flag anymore.

Got it. Thanks for the info. I really shouldn't expect more from beta version.
Leave this post for those who need it.
