I have a problem with a game on steam
So i downloaded a game called brawlhalla.playing it for 7 to 8 months then it got an update...i try to update it but it keeps stopping on 96% and idk why i tried everything every troubleshooting and talked to a steam support nothing worked my friend told me to uninstall the game and reinstall it so i did this and now its stopping in 98% (the game not the update) so i lost hope on the game but after a while my friend (the same person) told me that if he give me the game file[steam files-common-brawlhalla] that it would work but i don't know if this is legal and if it is will it work or not. (I forgot to add something that when the game stopping on 98% it then told me that its corrupted file.sorry for the long article and bad english lol

It's not illegal to do workarounds and troubleshooting on a game you're entitled to play. I used to copy game data around to systems manually all the time. Valve has no particular need for the game files to be downloaded from their servers for every possible installation.

Well do you know what file is corrupted? When you delete the game are you sure you're deleting all the files. Like have you gone to the game's folder and explorer and checked?

If it's not a file on your system that's gumming up the works, and a file downloaded to the same location is always corrupted on your system, I might want to run some diagnostics on the drive itself. Just to dot the i's and cross the t's.

Are you on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1?

As of May 21st, 2025, Valve has updated their compression algorithm to be more CPU and I/O efficient.
This change is not compatible with old clients that could still run on Windows 7 or 8.1 and future content changes will be made using this compression algorithm, resulting in a loss of access to downloads and updates.

As Valve has ended support for Windows 7 and 8.1 since January 1st, 2024, and therefore won't update their client for the use of Windows 7 and 8.1, your officially supported options are:
* Upgrade to Windows 10 (End of Life by October 2025 unless enrolled into ESU)
* Upgrade to Windows 11
* Install Linux Mint and play Windows only games using Proton
