How to pause when game is not focused

I've found you can make games not pause when focused when they are supposed to focus, but I haven't figured out how to make a game DO pause when not focused.
(Not focused as in it's in you move onto another app with something like alt+tab)

If a game has such a setting, enable that. If it doesn't have such a setting (and doesn't do that by itself), press Esc before unfocusing.

A game such as Super Hexagon doesn't allow you to pause
