SteamOS for Desktop?
With Windows 10 getting taken out behind the barn one last time on October 14th, I need a new OS. I'd rather have no computer than use Windows 11. Is SteamOS Desktop-ready yet?

ask on the hardware & operating systems board. there's lots of really big linux fans there that can tell you what to get and even bigger linux fans will appear to tell them why their distro of choice is wrong.

Any reason why you aim for SteamOS? Is there anything wrong with Bazzite or PopOS or Mint or whatever else?

You're the second person to suggest both Mint and Bazzite. They're likely good choices. Better choices than Windows 11, certainly.

What's so bad about 11? It's basically Windows 10 in a sense that most changes are UI-related rather than system-related. The system-related differences between 10 and 11 are very small.

I don't see how someone can be completely fine with 10 but refuse 11.

Most criticism of Windows 11 seems to be that people actually cannot upgrade to it, given the hardware requirements.

That said, SteamOS is purpose-built (Deck) so hardware support is bit of a question mark. But there are plenty of Linux distributions to choose from.
