I'm thinking, rather than directly address the issue at the moment, first make a backup of the game folder, then uninstall and try a fresh install, see if things go smoothly.
If install is problematic, and assuming the game files were unaffected in the previous update attempts, we can return the backup and have Steam believe the game is updated so you can get to play and continue troubleshooting as you wish.
It won't let me make a backup through the manage menu without updating the game. Would it work to just copy/paste to a desktop folder? I can't even play it as is-
I did as you suggested, and it can't install the game either. I don't know what to do at this point. Something seems to be wrong with Silksong itself.
I have restarted steam and my laptop more than 10 times a piece.
