Is it Possible to Revert to the Old Family Sharing System?
Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can help. I recently switched to the new Family management system, but I’ve run into a frustrating issue: I can no longer share my library with my brother, who lives in a different country. My game catalogue includes purchases from both my current and previous countries, so I don’t understand why this is causing a problem.

Is there any way to revert to the old Family Sharing system? I’d really appreciate any advice or insight into this issue.

Thanks in advance!

No the old steam family is being replaced with the new Steam Families system. At some point in the near future it wont even exist in the client, once the grace period for people switching over is complete.

Thank you for the reply. I am very sad about this, that they removed something without explicitly warning about it... The system even recommended my brother as a person to add, but then it didn't allow him to join.

They are basically treating it like physical copies. You were only able to share a game with others when you could hand them the CD/DVD for it. If you're in other countries, you can't just easily throw them your copy. Thats how it was always meant to be, it got changed, cuz it got abused by many for sharing with friends, not family.

No. The previous system has been replaced. Steam families now need to reside in the same household.

You can thank the people abusing the previous family sharing for that. Though it did come with improvements.

So you think you can friend your way around the system by swapping out family for random people? Glad it's not possible anymore ...

Well, me and by bother have been family sharing for many years, so I wasn't looking into swapping anything. I also live part time in new and original country so this doesn't really make sense to me. If I buy too many games when I visit the other country, will it lock out my husband from my family then....
