"You've made too many requests recently. Please wait and try your request again later."
Every time I try to buy cards for badges I get the message

"Sorry!

An error was encountered while processing your request:

There was a problem communicating with the Steam servers. Please try again later."

So I do, and it normally works on the second or third try.

However after using the market about three times it says

"You've made too many requests recently. Please wait and try your request again later."

I believe because Steam is timing out and giving me an error it thinks I'm spamming requests when all I want to do is complete badges.

Incidentally when trying to link to a youtube account from within the Steam Browser, it won't let me continue past the login screen because it says the browser is insecure.

Spamming refresh will make you hit the rate limit, yes.

As for logging into YT via the client, Google stopped letting embedded browsers like Steam to do that. Use a real browser.

I'm not spamming refresh, Steam is just lagging out and not letting me through so I have to try again. It takes Steam a solid 5 seconds to respond at all through it's browser.

Once you hit the rate limit, "You've made too many requests recently." Don't keep trying immediately. Wait a while.

Yeah I do, it just happens way too easily when I do because Steam still keeps lagging out so I always have to try two or three times to make a purchase.

I guess I should try again when the servers aren't so busy.

Valve seems to have shrunk the rate limit right down. I have gone from listing thousands of items each day in roughly 30 minutes to... About 12 items a minute (taking hours and hours). The more you keep hitting the rate limit the longer and more frequent the timeout will be: ultimately you will get a 6+ hour timeout which will even make your inventory innacessable. This change in the rate limit will likely have a massive impact on the prices of cheaper items if it is permanent.

Also note that the Market and Inventory API quota is per IPv4 address. Therefore, if you have CGNAT or DSLite, you share the quota with other customers of your ISP.

Thanks for being completely unhelpful.

your ip address is probably being rate limited. either change it via a vpn or restart your router if you have a dynamic ip address. if you have a static ip address and no vpn then just wait it

Thanks guys, possibly having two computers connected to steam via the same router was the issue.

Only if both were used to search the Market frequently. The rate limit doesn't care about multiple devices otherwise.

Well, the one connected to my TV was getting frequent updates from the market because my niece was on her account constantly changing between "Free to Play" games.

I suspect maybe that combined with me trying to buy cards and timing out made it seem like my router was spamming requests like a bot.

I'm have the same problem. I'm just trying to buy badges to up my level. You have to refresh the page when it says couldnt connect, But the other message 'You've made too many requests recently. Please wait and try your request again later.' I wait an hour it works and then stops again.

I do have steam on two pcs here but only one is on

One system here, hit refresh once when got the error screen and now got the 'too many requests' message
Steam is always buggy when there's a big sale on
