Solution found to disable spellchecking.
Find

C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\Steam\htmlcache\UserPrefs.json

Open the file "UserPrefs.json" with a texteditor and

search inside the file for: "dictionaries":["de"]

change it to "dictionaries":[""]

remove the "xx" letters for your language and save the file.

restart steam

done

Thanks, bud.
You might wanna add in (for those unaware) that you have to open the file with notepad (or another text-editing program).

Thanks, it works.
You should post this on reddit too.

If you cannot find the AppData folder, it might be hidden / system folder so you need to set hidden files and folders visible from the folder settings.
Good job there. Excellent work.

Very nice. Didn't think there'd be a solution this early.

Thank you! I'd been getting a bit annoyed at correctly spelled, yet uncommon words such as "hotfixed" getting that ugly red squiggle under them.

There's no excuse for Steam implementing this without also implementing a menu option to disable it, but at least there's a workaround. Thanks for doing for us what Steam didn't bother to.

thanks for the tip and kinda a shame you have to dig deep into code yourself to get rid of something noone asked for

Awesome, thanks! After I made that adjustment to the "UserPrefs.json" file, the annoying red lines stopped appearing for me the next time I turned on my computer. It's nice to not see those red lines anymore when talking about proper names or certain perfectly cromulent words.

No more annoying red underlines! :D

I have long ago assumed the reality-based view that there is ONLY an eternal beta client. - Yes, not implementing a damn trivial checkbox but requiring us to edit a cache file is facepalm, but this is how Valve rolls. They don't seem to care much about reputation, which is probably due to all their underage gambling schemes being so lucrative.
