Why is the Steam icon no longer showing in the taskbar?
It wasn't doing this before. It just has that logo of a program that has no icon (looks like a window with a blue box in the middle). I tried reinstalling Steam. The icon for it shows up when you're searching through My PC files, just not taskbar. I tried deleting the icon cache and restarting Windows Explorer, which before it showed a blank page icon, and after I did that it shows the icon it does now.

No other icons are doing this.

Have you rebooted recently?
Before you reboot open Steam client at the top left click on Steam and exit.
Then restart your PC.
Is Steam set to run when you start your PC?
Disable that in Steam settings>interface
Untick >Run Steam when I start my computer

I've just had this issue and I managed to fix it, so it might be some (delayed) help

If you right click on the 'corrupted' taskbar icon it should bring up a long list of Steam clients. One of those, near the bottom, will be corrupted in the same way
Right click on that corrupted option and click Properties
This should bring up the Shortcut tab
Now just make sure that the Target points to your installed Steam application and the Start In points to the install folder
Then when you click Change Icon, it should bring up the correct option
Select it, then click 'Ok' and it should be fixed

My issue came about because I swapped some hard drives around and installed a new version of Steam, but the shortcut pointed to the old folder which didn't have the icon in any more
I had this problem for over a year and tried everything. Then I just closed Steam using Task Manager, took its shortcut from the desktop, pinned it to the taskbar, opened it from there, closed it, and restarted the PC — and the icon went back to normal.

It was something very simple, but it worked. I had already tried things like uninstalling Steam, deleting the icon cache, etc., and none of that fixed it. Just doing this solved the issue.
Do us all a favor stop use windows game icon as shortcut, you only do that if game require script extender or other special needs, and gamer here can tell you have 100 games, and there is simple not enough room or have them at windows desktop, even then you made a folder as gam,es and put them in there, then you hit 500+ games they are point less and useless to browse though.

You can find many steam user already know all this, and i wish someone told me this way back
what a waste of time and it will happend agin then you wipe OS or get burnout drives,

steam user do not make backup of Icon files its here we tell stop use that olæd windows ways thats is seen as totaly outdated. today, and for many of us years ago.

Ask any experience steam user or windows PC user they know this.

Learn to use steam cover box or dynamic library as other online game client already do.
this is not a joke, this is fact how other online client is already. ( many games know this but not if you read all them shortcut user at steam, that almost report this daily. )

they use alot of time with script and validate games and other ways to fix lost icons , ( IMO wehat a wates of time ) and we aere vback at i wish someone bother told me this years ago then i also had blank icon's. after a guide in reset steam so it work again.

I have not been in my game icon folder, where are dump game icon drop at desktop, so YES they are useless to search through.
