Game updates redownloading entire game? What the ♥♥♥♥?
Steam has had some huge updates for me, so i just assumed it was the game or something getting a lot of content. In PUBG every update I've gotten was 12+ GB. I never thought it was really a problem and just unfortunate for me because of my terrible internet speed making this take an entire day. This just happened with a Squad update(U 15) which I have been told by several people is only 5 GB, but is 18 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GEGABYTES ON MY PC! What is the deal with this? As I said, my Internet is terrible(because I live in a rural part of Idaho and have very limited choices) and this is seriously pissing me off. In the Squad discord people said this may have something to do with the fact that I have an HDD? Please help if you can.

That 5 vs 18 GB part looks entirely legit. 5 GB download getting expanded to 18 GB. That's quite the compression ratio!
As for your PUBG updates, ask on the game forum. Different games may update differently.

Was your game fully updated beforehand? I have slow internet also. If I am updating a game and it is at 9/10gb then the game releases a 1gb update I will be at 0/11gb. This is how steam has always worked.

You could try verifying the game cache, does that decrease the size to 5gb? I don't know much about what the app manifest really is so I couldn't tell you if it's a problem or not... Could you check if the game is located within steam/steamapps/common or if it's within a seperate folder?

Also if it makes you feel better it would take me 3 days all bandwidth 24 hours a day to download 18gb lol.

I personally would go with Cleveland's theory though.

sorry you have ♥♥♥♥ internet too. haha. I did actually try to verify integrity of game files and nothing worked. the update will be done within 10 mins or so with about 300mb. I really hope it doesnt do this again
