Holiday badge
There is no way I am ever going to be a pillar of the community, because I have to connect my Steam account to my facebook account. Don't have a Facebook account don't want one, never will! Doesn't Steam know that a lot of gamers are private people and we want to stay that way!
Facebook is anything but private! Thanks Steam for no badge.

Make a fake facebook page. You know people are dying of starvation in Africa and you're complaining about not getting a virtual badge that signifies nothing important.

Make Facebook account link Facebook to steam then deactivate the Facebook account. not hard. If you really want the badge other then that it just sits there and dose nothing for you.

There is also the video posting achievement. Whats your opinion of YouTube?
If you have a gmail account then you have not so secretly been given a youtube page to play around on.
You have a bunch of games, but no TF2. Worth checking out(and its free-to-play). I also mention this because you can record a replay from in the game and then post it to your linked YouTube account in a few easy steps. You don't even have to edit the video if you don't want to, the achievement doesn't care.

And even I... who abhors social media of all forms... created a real and mostly blank facebook account just for the badge. So far it hasn't been useful for anything other than that. I never really trusted facebook, and when the Z man's own page went unexpectedly public I knew I would never put any personal info on there. Its basically a toy for the kiddies as long as they don't reveal their entire life and secrets on it in which case it potentially becomes a perfect nightmare.

A fictional facebook page has many uses, you can register on hundreds of sites without giving them any real information. I used to block the facebook cross-site scripting, but now I just use that profile everywhere I'd never buy anything so they don't need accurate information anyway.

My problem with that is... I don't want my "real" steam profile associated with a "fake" facebook page (or any social media, for that matter). I didn't want to post a video either. Not because I'm lazy, but because I do not want to share this type of media. I prefer screenshots. The only reason I haven't posted a video is the fact that I will never get the badge because of the facebook achievement.

-1 for Steam

No one will ever know it was a fake facebook account. You can unlink it later. You are thinking way too hard on a non-issue.

You don't take my "Anti-Facebook" policy as serious I do. Its my own priorities in action. The unlinking tip was useful though, thanks.

Exactly like Rolling Cheese said. If you want the badge but don't really want your Steam account linked, just create a FB account, link it, and then unlink it to get the badge.

If you're anti facebook then why do you care about a useless badge on your steam community profile? steam community is basically a facebook clone anyway. your steam profile is no less private than a FB profile. Besides, using a fake FB account just to get the badge undermines the entire point of the badge because then it hasn't really been earned and therefore stands for nothing.

I'm an active member of this GAMING community. We share game related material. I like games, therefore, I support it. Sharing my life, however, is not something I want to engage in. And while this is not the only purpose of Facebook, it seems to have become just that. Logic wont work here, as you're dealing with matters of personal opinion.

Also, I personally do not want to "cheat" the badge. I came here looking for support on the subject before I send my suggestion (to remove that part of the badge) to Steam.

You don't have to attack people just because their objective is pointless...

I didn't mean to attack you or offend anyone. I don't have a facebook either, but I don't expect steam to change the terms of the pillar of the community badge to suit me. i just accept that, according to the terms that steam has laid out, I am not a "pillar of the community". imo changing the requirement for getting the badge is just as much of a cheat as using a fake FB account.

Which is why I was looking for more people who think the same way. Maybe we can encourage change...

My desire for completion has put me at odds with my own morals. Can you blame me for wanting to have my cake AND eat it too?

Can you give me a good reason why the badge is such a big deal for you ? It does nothing, it's just a bunch of pixels in a corner noone will ever see but you.

There's no reason to get angry about it ... unless you have OCD :/

e-peen.

Read above where it says, "My desire for completion..."

Who's getting angry? I see no signs of rage here.
