Is couch co-op just gone at this point?
Not a steam only issue, but it's certainly an issue on steam. I see far too many rougelike top down games that are cream of the crop for local co-opp potential, but they're almost always (90%) online co-op only. I'm not an expert, but one would think if you can make online co-op possible, why not put an extra week or two into the game to make local a thing? I'm just interested whether this is a trend caused by the gaming market or something else.

PC isnt conducive to couch gaming. Of course it can be, but generally thats just not how people game on PC and the games reflect it.

It usually requires another PC to at least stream from the primary, so cost and complexity for the avg person is higher as well.

Id go so far as to say that its a niche that is far better served by the consoles. I saw that Borderlands 4 actually has split screen coop, at least on PS5, not sure about PC. But if it doesnt support it on PC then Id say that is a perfect example of both what you are talking about and my response.

Yeah ig that makes sense. Just a bummer for me bc my PC is an ITX build so its not too hard to move to the couch area. I do think laptops are underrated for it tho bc they can usually run the games that are couch co-op
As you've just said, OP, this is not really a PC issue. The actual reason why couch coop is disappearing is because publishers realise that if they don't include it then people are going to be forced to purchase a second copy of the game just to play with their friends.

Yes, I know. That's both a very stupid and a very selfish reason.
