Steam Downloading Problem
This happened with Marvel Rivals to a lot of people, but I'm not sure if it has happened with any other games. Other users please share their experience if so.

What happens is that if the download is interrupted for any reason (for example on an update for Marvel Rivals), the "pause and resume" feature doesn't seem to be working right, so when you close and restart or re-open Steam, the download system will have wiped the ENTIRE GAME from your hard drive and will start over downloading the entire game. It appears that it thinks the download is corrupted or something and just wipes the entire thing.

This is really irritating going from a 15GB download to a 75GB one and can waste hours of someone's time. They need to fix this ASAP but I'm not sure exactly how to just file a bug report without doing the whole customer service thing which I feel is unnecessary.

There is no pause and resume in steam game downloads / game update downloads.

If it does not complete, it has to start over.

What are you even talking about? Yes, there is clearly a pause button in the downloads menu and this feature has been in Steam for years. Please don't come in here and immediately say something false.

once you log off, close steam, or reboot your pc, it will restart the download from scratch. you can pause the download, but you need to resume it, before the connection is lost, or you close the client, or reboot your computer.

What? Why? This has never happened before. I have paused downloads, turned off PC, then resumed them the next day from the point that they were paused. There is nothing on the Steam app that says "downloads must be finished before closing steam or they will cancel and fully restart." This is not true. There are many people on the Rivals forums talking about this because it's never happened before and is not supposed to happen. If it were, Steam would make it clear somewhere with a message about this.

Please stop gaslighting as if this is normal.

if a (new) game update comes prior to finishing previous update, it will restart it all.

So, likely that is what is happening here.

A new update prior to finishing a previous update? What? Has this ever happened? How would this even happen, and "restart it all" to what? To the first unfinished update, or to the new one, or a complete reinstall?

No, that is not what's happening. The original update is paused or otherwise interrupted, and when it's resumed, it uninstalls the entire game and redownloads the ENTIRE GAME. Please READ and comprehend what you have read.

I'm beginning to think no one on these forums has a clue about anything lol.

Maybe ask in game forums then?
Clearly not a (recent) Steam issue.

And yes, this has happened previously with many games.
