From what I've observed, it seems that sometimes a few demo games, or games labeled as playtests, might be counted in your total games played. It could be a system error that counts games incorrectly, or maybe I just don't know. Steam Support isn't really sure either and usually gives only general answers, so it's probably not worth your time.
I'm looking at a friend's profile, which shows 166 games played and 45 demos, while the total number of games in the overall summary is 210, of which 45 are demos. That leaves 165 games, so I don't know where the 166 comes from.
This is regarding 2024. The previous years are even more poorly organized.
