Steam Needs To Make This Clear
Hey I'm brand new to PC gaming from my PS5 and i'm so happy to be here. I had my PC set up and fully ready to go with my desk and monitor while i'm still learning my PC but after having it for 3 weeks im finally ready to buy a game and I wanted to start with assassins creed shadows cause of the sale. Tried to by the game 4 times but declined because it says my address for billing is wrong. after so many fails I go to the bank app and check my address and see I have been charged 4 times from steam. i'm confused and also extremly angry my money is gone and I have no game and the banks says my address is fine call steam and get a refund but no Customer support line im completly lost now and getting more mad then no live chat so I take a deep breath and check my email I get a Email from Steam 10 mins from the first failed purchase saying I Need to spend $5 min at no point was this info displayed to me until far after the fact. I'm not saying im not at fault but why would you let me put my card info in and charge me 4 times tell me my address is wrong gaslighting me (I know) and then in the email it says it took nothing. Look there should be a huge Yellow or Red banner telling me to WAIT! we see this is you very first purchase you need to spend $5 first to UNLOCK all feature's. Now im on the phone with my bank. I think this is something that needs to be HUGE for people like me im no longer mad but I cant be the only one. I'm sorry for the typo's

I feel like there's a misunderstanding in the process here somewhere. Steam doesn't require you to spend $5 before you can make a purchase on the store, you can buy any game at any price and it counts towards the $5 spent.

I don't think you've been charged 4 times, either. Likely the money is pending for those transactions and given nothing has happened, it should be automatically knocked back into your account.

Do you have a PayPal account or anything you can use? I've never had any issues with it there.
What you are seeing on your bank are just holds placed on your funds by your bank. Because the transactions failed your bank will release the funds back to you. Normally in 3 to 5 days.
Hey everyone yes the money was moved but in processing so its not really gone but as far as trying spend it wont even take $5 i had to use a old card that I reload money on just for it to take it. I then tired to buy the game but the same thing happened now I just found out I have to wait 7 days now to buy anything at all because im new. This game wont even be on sale by then and I guess that not my main issue I been spoiled by consoles I had no idea this all was even a thing with steam. I understand why but I wish they made that super clear before I did everything I did. i still need to learn how to use this website. IDK how anything works. Also I know steam wants to prevent scams but I feel like I was being treated like a Criminal from the jump. Now If I wait 7 days and still cant by anything and steam dont tell me why then I made a major mistake.
I’m just salty now because I really wanna test out my new hardware but now I gotta wait a week. After It took weeks to decide what I wanted to play.
Does the address you're providing Steam match the one linked to your bank? Also are you using a prepaid for visa card or is it a real debit or credit card?

Something with your address is not matching somewhere along the line which is causing Valve's payment processor to reject the transaction.
Might also be worth contacting Steam Support directly. They deal with account and billing issues.
I submitted a ticket to steam about it just now. And I have my own personal debit card and then I have a Cash App card and that’s the card that took the $5 (Cash App card) when I called my bank they confirmed everything was fine with my address. Steam even emailed me saying it was rejected but didn’t fully explain clearly in the email after the first failed purchase. That’s how I found out about the $5 but everytime I try to use my debit card it said no. I’m hoping if I wait the 7 days so I can use all the community features then steam will actually let me buy a game.
