Game recs for an old man
My dad recently turned 63, and I'm 17 years old. He claims he can't play games whatsoever, so I'm looking for something to prove him wrong. He's a cynical old fart so only the best ! no first person games where he has to move preferably, I don't trust him to be able to use a camera haha. Anything I can play with him would be nice too but it's not necessary. I just want time with my dad. Thank you very much !

Honestly, it may be tough. I'm about that age, but i've had a game controller in my hand since the 70's.

It's not gonna be easy to get Dad into PC or Console gaming this late, particularly if he knows nothing about games, how controls work, etc.

Phones may be a better idea.

Unless it's something he really wants to learn and do.

If he's not into it, I wouldn't push it.

It's like those old Choose Your Own Adventure books from the 70s and 80s. As a visual novel, you don't have to learn any game mechanics. It's well-written and weird, which is excellent if he's into Lovecraftian stuff.

This is great for people who enjoy just having fun and creating pretty landscapes. It seems inspired by board games where you place tiles, which makes it a natural choice for someone who's already into board games.

It uses the familiar mechanics of a slot machine to make something completely new that isn't gambling. It's more like a deck-building card game. It's easy to learn but tricky to master.

I'm sure there's other stuff, but I don't know what he's into.

Fairly chill game, and though it has Family Sharing you can't share and play at the same time- so you'll both have to have a copy. No combat, but there are ways to die. Not permadeath unless you choose to play permadeath- so you can start him out on an easier mode, learn the game together and move up to a higher difficulty if he's interested. Requires some strategy, so you'll need to use a little brain power to solve some basic puzzles to unlock new tech and items, but nothing mind-bending. He will have to learn how to use the camera and move through the world on foot and later int he game when you unlock the Rover- how to drive the Rover around. But it's a pretty game, lots of base building, lots of exploration, and more interesting than having him start on a Match 3 game. The game isn't competitive, but the community can be at times. Not really toxic community- just aggressively "My base is better than your base!" at times.
