Do you think a subscription service could work for Steam ?
I'm talking having access to everything for a monthly fee ? I don't know something like 20$ a month or 200$ a year ? For the price of 2-3 full retail price, you could have access to everything. What your thought on that ? Would you sub to that ?

It may, but inevitably Game Pass is going to come to Steam. Likely their next console. Once that happens people would subscribe to that.

I really wish Steam would have started their own Stream Pass like service, to compete with Xb ox and Ge Force Now, but it seems there is no reason for Steam compete, if they are in fact partners with them.

If it was optional, sure

There's nothing hinting Game Pass will come to Steam.

Microsoft doesn't wanna pay for it to be on Steam.
i cannot imagine one that lets you access every title working

i can see a monthly rotating one where devs/pubs opt in to it

i am thinking it would be filled with a lot of low effort games with the occasional gem

Devs/publishers also already have the capability to set this up on Steam should they desire to, as well.

Yeah. GeForce Now literally does this. A developer just has to allow it.

I think it'll just be other companies that offer passes. Like EA and Ubisoft are already doing. Or paradox where you can buy a subscription to play a game with theri 50 dlc included.
Take the number of games on Steam and divide by the average number of games available on Game Pass.

Now take that number and multiply the monthly cost of Game Pass by it.

Would you pay that amount?

Thats all beside the fact that GabeN has stated he has no interest in offering such a "Steam Pass".

There isn't any chance in hell of that. If there was a sub for everything on steam it would be closer to $2,000 a month then $20 a month.

A subscription would be way more expensive for me than buying stuff. So: Nope.

GabeN doesn't want to add a subscription to Steam, at this time.

GabeN would work with MS to bring Gamepass to Steam or any other dev/pub that wants to add a subscription to Steam, if they want to. The same way they parneted with EA to bring them back to Steam along with EA Play.

Everything for a monthly fee?

2024 - 7,885 new games were released.

2023 - 14,543 new games were released.

2022 to 2004 - How many games have released during those 22 years?

And yet you feel $20 or $200 per month is acceptable for everything.

How about $1 per game based on only those games released in 2024 - $7,885 per month.

Or $1 per game based on only those games released in 2023 - $14,543 per month.

Or 2024 and 2023 only combined and the monthly fee is $22,428 per month.

Or to put it another way, lets assume there are 10,000 developers on Steam. How exactly do you divide $20 or $200 per month between them and convince them it is a great deal.

Or your boss pays you $1,000 per month and there are 1,000 employees including you and they have decided to give the other 999 employees $1 each from your wage per month.

Inevitably?

Has Phil Spencer (Head of Microsoft Gaming and Xbox) committed to that? No and it is over 3 years since Gabe Newell stated: Valve has no plans for a 'Steam Pass,' but would help Microsoft put Game Pass on Steam back in February 2022.

I honestly don't think a subscription service works for games at all, at least not in the long run.

For example: https://www.videogamer.com/features/xbox-game-pass-is-a-huge-gamble-for-developers-and-it-doesnt-always-pay-off/
