Are we allowed to post twitch.tv links to tournaments?
I recently got warned (and my post removed) for posting a twitch link to a fighting game tournament since it was considered advertising. But when I go to other fighting game forums (like Street Fighter 6) a ton of players post twitch links and it's fine? I tried asking steam support if I'm allowed to link to tournaments, but they just link me to the community rules and close the request

Has anyone else gotten warned for this? Maybe we aren't allowed to discuss tournaments on the steam forums

Update: steam has ruled that twitch.tv links are allowed, at least for linking events occurring on twitch. Here's a screenshot of the support ruling, in case anyone else gets warned for linking to a tournament https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3568962827

Not allowed in the steam related forums and sub-forums. But in the games own forum, should be ok unless the games publisher / developer / moderators do not allow it.

All depends on the dev's who manage that game hub. I have seen a few game hubs where they have a separate thread section for streamers to post.

That's what I would have expected, but it was a steam admin that warned me for the post, not a mod for the game forum. Based on my interactions with steam support, it seems like they don't want twitch links posted anywhere

It varies by game hub. Read their game hub rules.

On the main forums, no.

Also I should note, I wasn't promoting my own stream. It's pretty common for fighting game communities to link to a major tournament stream, which is what I was doing

of course, yeah. I did post it to the game's forum, but I'm turning to the general steam forums since I don't know where else to go (support isn't willing to provide clarification, so I can only assume they don't want any twitch links posted period)

yeah thats all good..

each game hub can have their own rules so you just need to ask in the game hub before doing so or see if they have any pinned rules. If you were not sure and did it and got a warning then you know they didnt want it there.. Even if you see tons of spam links you just have to accpet they didnt want it posted there..

at the end of the day dont get yourself into trouble over a link to twitch, its not worth the hassle.

true, you're right. For whatever reason steam admins seemingly don't want any twitch links posted period

I understand if that's how it is, but that really sucks for any fighting game community. This basically means players aren't allowed to link any competitive resources, tournaments, combos, or sets by top players. Perhaps the steam forums are just not the place for competitive game discussion

Reddit does have a community, but it's unfortunate that we can't really discuss the game here on steam. But if that's how it is, that's how it is. Not sure why steam moderators are so hostile to discussing tournaments

You can in the games own forum / sub-forum, as long as the game forum allow it.

It is off topic obviously in the steam related forums / sub-forums.
Game forums have their own moderators.

I posted a link to JOHN ROMERO playing DOOM THE DARK AGES on twitch, in the games forum and guess what happened?

Same as you. Got warned.

One day, Gabe is going to play HL3 on twitch, someone will post a link to GABE PLAYING HALF-LIFE 3 on twitch and that user will get a warning.

Something is wrong.

Thanks for replying, I was seriously wondering if I was the only one

Sadly, it does seem like this is steam's stance. It's bizarre, since so much gameplay is posted to twitch
