Firearms in video games and what it means for payment processors
As much as I loathe keeping the payment processor topic dragged out, this one is an important question to ask:

Payment processors have a history of recently blocking or at least proposing to block firearm purchases to 'protect their brand image'. It's not a big stretch to say violent games are on the chopping block too.

Games that would likely be taken down are games that:

1: Let you customize guns or build on them in a realistic way. Think of Crysis, Battlefield games, and even gun smithing games.
2: Games with loads of violence Ie: Doom, Ready, Trepang, etc.
3: Games that allow killing of non-combatants. Games like GTA, Saints Row, Modern Warfare 2, Ready Or Not, etc.
4: Games that allow war crimes. Almost all warfare games

How many times have we heard that gaming is causing mass shootings and especially lately when newer/younger generations are shooting people, we can expect older generations to blame gaming (With exceptions).

But many older people already know it's not true but with younger non-gamers throwing their hat in the race, there will likely be enough outcry for another collective shout esque scapegoat. It likely won't stop with these games however, but these are the next lowest hanging fruit.

I highly suggest to people who enjoy these types of games to get them while they're still available because there is a MAJOR chance that they won't be soon. The same applies to mods as well.

I'm curious; What does the community think? Is this a good thing? Bad thing? Or does everyone think it won't happen?

I personally think it's practically inevitable on our current path.

TL:DR

Payment processors will probably ban games with guns and violence based on their history with firearms. What do you think?

I'd agree logically but it's mainly about gore, nudity, and guns. Heck, drugs will probably be censored for sure. Games like schedule 1 or High on life. There isn't a huge outcry against real life animal fighting or anything.

I hate to break it to you, but pretty much all pokemon other than Mr Mime are naked.

Collective Shout (anti porn group) appeal to payment providers was for specific adult only sexual content and the payment providers complied.

Other adult only sexual content is still available on Steam.

Secondly do you honestly believe Visa and Mastercard are not going to want a slice of the pie for Grand Theft Auto VI estimated to make $3 billion usd in the first year, or the latest Battlefield, Call of Duty etc. Of course they want their slice because it is business.

And finally Rockstar have the money to sue Collective Shout for impeding their business, as do EA and Microsoft.

The only thing that's in Visa's list of no-no topics that hasn't changed since before Steam allowed adult games on the platform that they haven't already acted on is non-consensual body modification. So basically RimWorld. It's not a long list. It's like five phrases total. If they turn around and demand that RimWorld be removed from the platform, that would be somewhat surprising. Anything beyond that would require them to change their list of rules that they haven't changed for over a decade.

That's reassuring but it can change on a dime and they have a history.
