Debit cards don't work. Only credit cards.
Age Assurance under the UK Online Safety Act
You need to use a CREDIT card. As debit cards can be issued to under 18s, they cannot be used to verify you are over 18.
But I had to prove I am an adult to get the debit cards. This is retarded.
Debit cards are issued from the age of 16, whereas credit cards are 18.
Via special "Youth" or "Child" accounts. Not via regular accounts.
Then complain to Ofcom. They are the one's that won't accept debit cards as proof of age.
Then be sure to tell Valve, so they can fix that loophole. Or keep quiet about it and hope they don't notice.
Valve knew about the loophole since it went into effect.
Valve knew you could change region with a VPN to unlock games (earlier) too, back in the day. It wasn't a problem until people kept talking about it on the forums.
I am not blaming Valve for being forced to do this. I am just pissed off.
Also it's not much of a loophole when you can just buy keys outside of steam and activate them or have a friend from another country gift you the game.
I have been telling people for a week to do this.
I even mentioned it to Valve employees, with a response of, "we know."
Good for you. Valve don't consider it a problem. Yet. But don't discount the possibility they will. For example, someone from Ofcom or the UK government could read a post suggesting to do it and they could then raise a stink with Valve.
I'm always fascinated by this sort of thinking. Like Valve only addresses issues if people talk about them enough? And if no one talked about it Valve would never know, or never bother to address it?
This is the ultimate in correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation.
"We know" doesn't mean they don't consider it a problem. It may mean we know the issue exists and we're gonna fix it in the next update. Or it could mean we're going to wait for specific demands, which are inevitable because there's no such thing as a secret when it comes to the functionality of a publicly facing platform with millions of users hitting every nook and cranny.
Remember when the first Borderlands released? It was possible to change region to unlock it several hours early (IRIC, about 12 hours early for the US). People made a big fuss of doing it on the Borderlands' forum. Valve specifically disabled those accounts for several days in retaliation and even said as much in the warning they then issued. So yes, based on that event, we can arrive at the conclusion that Valve only cared because people were very vocal about it. And if those people had kept quiet, they wouldn't have had their accounts nuked.
i would be one of them, this system is flawed and stupid.
At the very least steam should have looked at what the majority of uk residence would be able to USE to verify themselves instead of chosing something most of us dont have
