intresting steam timer
So I buy a game, of course there are a bunch of cut scenes and tutorials to take up time.
That 2 hour timer is ticking for me to decide if I really want this game.

I decide that I want to refund it.
I immediately exit out.
Steam says "109 minutes", I think "OK, refund"
Then the time played on the page jumps to "2 hours".

From 109 to 120 is a pretty big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jump AFTER I exited the game.

that is some shady ♥♥♥♥.

I want to know the EXACT minutes played, not this rounded up BS that favors not being able to refund.

It goes by time the game exe has been running. Steam has no idea what you are doing at your pc.

You might have been offline from the library servers while this early mornings servers burped.

But do a manual refund request, be sure to explain why.

This is what happens when the cloud reconciles its time. With the actual play time according to the application itself. The long and short of it is you really did play over the limit. Your computer was the one holding the stopwatch.

It's the client that is responsible for recording playtime, not the game itself. As such, playtime starts upon launch and only updates after exiting the game, because the client can only finalize and upload the data to the server once you terminate the program.

The client is unable to monitor your activity (edit: and by that I mean whether you're actually playing or just leaving it running) within the game, just how long the program runs. If you're unsure about a game, there are plenty of gameplay trailers, reviews and walkthroughs on the internet that could help you decide.

Being at (or even over) 120 minutes runtime is not a guaranteed refusal of a refund, although you will likely need a manual review.

Select the purchase and then the "I have a question about this purchase" and politely explain your situation.
