It is very likely that there was another update in between you starting and finishing your download. It unfortunately translate to you having to start over because the old file version you were already downloading and the new file version do not match anymore.

correct, if you close steam client while downloading, it will reset once you wake your computer. There is no pause, do to the way it downloads sections. Just leave your computer on when downloading. keep it from sleeping.
